Who is eligible to apply?
The Award of £5000 is open to any playwright of Caribbean or African descent, resident in the UK, for the best new stage play in English, which need not have been produced. Each entrant may submit only one play.  (Television, radio and film scripts will not be considered).  New as well as established writers are encouraged to enter. A play may also be nominated by a third party with the writer’s consent.

The Selection Committee

The Award is made on the basis of the applications received, and which, in the view of the Committee, is the best new play submitted for 2008.

The Selection Committee includes: Yvonne Brewster OBE (founder and former Artistic Director of Talawa Theatre Company), Roland Rees (Chair of Alfred Fagon Award and Theatre Director) and Ruth Little (Literary Manager, Royal Court).

Conditions

Applicants are notified by letter of their entry’s safe arrival. The winner is announced at the Award Ceremony in late November.

Remember the deadline for receipt of completed application is 31st  August 2008.
